Director of Children and Youth Ministry
The Henrietta United Methodist Church (Amherst, OH) is looking for a Youth Leader to work closely with the pastor and other key church leaders to:
*Lead the Sunday School program (recruitment of teachers, selecting curriculum, scheduling/teaching classes and support communications)
*Lead and expand the youth program (including curriculum, activities, volunteers and support communications)
*Oversee the implementation of the "Safe Sanctuaries" policy
*Lead the Faith Formation Committee
*Coordinate the Nursery
*Plan special events for the children (i.e. Christmas program, Easter program).
This role is anticipated to be part-time (15-20 hours per week). We are seeking someone with a strong Methodist background and commitment to Christ
and affirmation of those teachings, who has a passion for youth, is committed to safety and able to work flexible hours. Salary will be commensurate with
experience and a background check is required.
JOB DESCRIPTION: DIRECTOR OF CHILDREN AND YOUTH MINISTRY
General Duties:
The director of Children and Youth Ministry serves the Henrietta United Methodist Church, 52148 Telegraph Road, Amherst, Ohio 44001. While working closely and cooperatively with the pastor, the Director of Children and Youth Ministry is ultimately accountable to the Staff-Parish Relations Committee of Henrietta UMC.
The Director of Children and Youth Ministry represents the church and is responsible for carrying forth its mission through ministries for and with children, youth, and their families.
Specific Duties:
1. Lead in the recruitment of Sunday School teachers, selecting curriculum, scheduling and assisting in teaching classes as needed. Order and distribute curriculum to all teachers. Draft and distribute correspondence with parents of Sunday school children to let them know what is taking place in the classroom.
2. Work with the pastor to lead youth group and expand youth program including curriculum, activities, volunteers, and communicating with families.
3. Oversee the implementation of the Safe Sanctuaries policy, sign-in procedure for students, and make sure that the church has an information sheet on each student.
4. Schedule, attend and lead the Faith Formation Committee meetings and help recruit members for the committee.
5. When the need arises, coordinate volunteers for the Nursery.
6. Plan special events for the children of Henrietta UMC, i.e.: Easter Programs, Christmas Program, etc. This would include all preparation leading up to and including the event, recruiting volunteers, and clean-up.
7. Be involved in community events that involve children of Henrietta UMC and the community.
8. Draft monthly newsletter articles. Forward announcements to the church secretary for input to the church bulletin.
9. Attend administrative board meetings as necessary and report the status of Faith Formation activities.
10. Assist in drafting of the annual budget for Faith Formation.
Expectations:
- The Director of Children and Youth Ministry is expected to carry out all duties with courtesy, friendliness, and in a professional manner.
- The Director of Children and Youth Ministry is accountable on a weekly basis to the Pastor and on an on-going basis to the Staff Parish Relations Committee regarding his/her employment. He/she will be provided with an annual review by an SPR member, and/or the Pastor.
- The Director of Children and Youth Ministry is to adhere to the Safe Sanctuaries policy as approved by Henrietta UMC Administrative Board.
- Additional duties as assigned.

- Strong personal commitment to following Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and affirmation of the teachings of the Unted Methodist Church.
- Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to connect with youth from diverse backgrounds.
- Have a passion for empowering youth to grow in their faith and leadership skills.
- Be committed to creating a safe and inclusive environment for all youth members.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate youth and children’s activities and events.
- Successful completion of a background check required.
Hours: The Director of Children and Youth Ministry is expected to work 15 hours per week, with the understanding that it will vary depending on activities for that week. Hours will be divided between youth events, and remote work.
Salary: Commensurate with education and experience.
